Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

International students who have just finished two years of study at an Australian educational institution are eligible for the 485 visa, a temporary visa. In this way, they will be able to reside and work there for up to four years.

When applying for a 485 visa, the principal applicant must be present in Australia and have had a valid student visa during the six months prior to filing.

DIFFERENT VISA STREAMS

Temporary graduate visas are classified into two categories:

Graduate work stream: This visa is designed for overseas students who have just graduated and possess the knowledge and credentials required to fill specific jobs in Australia. You are able to temporarily live, study, and work in Australia under this program. The maximum period of stay is usually 18 months. Hong Kong passport holders can stay in Australia for five years. The complete visa cost is AUD1650.

Post-Study workstream: International students who just received a degree from an Australian university are eligible for this visa. You can temporarily reside, work, and study in Australia. Staying in Australia depends on qualification. It usually takes 2 to 4 years. Hong Kong passport holders can apply for a period of five years. Its cost is AUD1650.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY

 

You must be:

• Be younger than 50
• Possess a valid visa
• Possess a recent degree from a CRICOS-registered program
• Your visa application must be submitted while you are physically present in Australia
• You need to fulfill the educational criteria set by the Australian authorities
• Your visa application must be lodged within six months of receiving your examination or assessment results
• You are eligible to apply for this visa only once during your lifetime

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

English: The primary applicant must provide proof of their English proficiency, preferably by possessing a particular type of passport or by passing an English exam. It is necessary to provide proof of adequate English proficiency at the time of filing.

Study: Within six months of submitting your visa application, you must have finished two years of education and met the qualifying requirements.

Point test: This type of visa doesn’t need points.

English language requirements have decreased significantly. The decision will be a great relief for candidates who have failed to get the minimum score needed in each band.
